I’ve noticed something odd in my Kia Niro EV and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced it. After a pause in auto hold, when I gently accelerate to move again, I sometimes feel a clunk. It doesn’t happen all the time just intermittently.

Is this just a normal quirk of the system, or could it be something that needs attention? Maybe something with the brakes releasing or the regen kicking in?

Could just be a normal quirk of the system, but if it’s happening more often or getting worse, it might be worth mentioning at your next service appointment. Some EVs have a slight brake release lag when coming out of auto hold, and software updates have helped smooth it out in other models.

My son's 2020 PHEV had a similar problem. It felt like a hard shift from a stop, almost like the clutch was being dropped, and it usually happened in electric mode. It took two trips to the dealership to get it sorted out. The car had about 30,000 miles on it. They ended up replacing the gear oil (TSB TRA093) and some gaskets. Hopefully, this info is useful! He also found other people online reporting the same issue.
