I’ve noticed something really odd with the headlights on my 2020 Niro PHEV, and I’m hoping someone might have some insight. Here’s what’s happening:

When I’m in EV mode during the daytime, the headlights flash on briefly and then turn off when I switch the control to ON.
If it’s dark outside, the headlights work completely fine.
If the heater is running (and the gas engine kicks in), the headlights also work fine, even during daylight hours.

I’m completely baffled by this! Has anyone else experienced something similar? Could this be an issue with the electrical system, or is it some quirky behavior tied to the EV mode? Would love to hear any ideas or fixes before I head to the dealership.

This happens because your car is in EV mode. Nothing to be concerned about. When the car is in EV mode, the electrical system focuses more on energy conservation. This is why the headlights stay off.

Perhaps it's an energy-saving feature of the EV mode. It can also be a software or electrical problem, so it might be useful to contact the dealership or look for updates.

Yeah that’s a strange one! It definitely a software glitch or an issue with how the car switches between modes.
