My 2020 Niro EV just died on me in the middle of the road with a "Check Electric Vehicle System" error. It was only 40 degrees outside, and we've never had this issue before.

Kia is blaming it on not having a battery heater, but that sounds like BS to me.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not buying their explanation. Any advice on what to do next?

Did anyone take a look at the load on the 12v battery? Mine's feeling pretty weak as well - it's like it dies at the drop of a hat. If I leave the instruments on for just a few hours without driving, it’s game over, even though the high-voltage battery’s supposed to be charging it. Pretty sure its time for a new 12v battery.

In the middle of the road? I hope that doesn't happen to me! That’s definitely not the kind of experience I'd like to have.

How did you get it fixed? Hopefully, you got it sorted out.

Cold weather can affect electric vehicles (EVs), especially the battery’s range and performance. While 40°F (around 4°C) isn’t extremely cold, it can still have an impact, particularly if the vehicle has been sitting outside for a while or if the battery management system (BMS) isn’t working properly. Hopefully, your issue has been resolved. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.
