There's a YouTube video that shows how to remove the entire thing. To remove the sunglasses case, loosen the screws and pull it down. I can't remember the name of the video, but you can look it up.

There may be a mechanical issue at play here, did you check if there is anything stuck in between the flaps? Is the mechanism showing signs of rust and squeaking noises? If you tried doing temporary fixes on the car and it still shows the same issues then I think its time to hit the dealership...
This is a mechanical issue that can easily be fixed and it is also under warranty. However, if you want to try and fix it yourself then try to lubricate the hinge with WD-40, and maybe that will do the trick.
