Hey everyone,

First EV jitters here! We’re picking up a 2024 Kia Niro Wind+, and of course, the dealership’s 273 miles away! I think I’m prepared, but any “first EV” surprises I should brace for? Chargers, adapters, random stuff I didn’t think of? Level 2’s going in the next day, so at least we’re not charging off a hamster wheel at home

Congrats on the new Niro EV! I might have some thoughts for you.
- in winter the range can drop a bit - don't be surprised if you see a drop in the mileage;
- great choice going for a lvl2 charger at home;
- many EV owners recommend the ChargePoint+ (it can be a plus in winter because of its flexible cable);
- don't worry about charging it on the road - there are plenty of chargers nowadays;
- use ABRP for best charging spots;
- you will be anxious and nervous on the first long trip because of the range, haha, but again, don't worry. Just enjoy the journey.
I wish you safe rides! Also, good one (the joke with the hamster)!!

You can maximize regenerative braking with the steering wheel paddles coz it’ll activate the iPedal mode. This will allow you to control both acceleration and braking using only the gas pedal. The car gradually slows down when you lift your foot off the gas pedal and if you release the pedal completely it will bring it to a full stop.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll try out the iPedal mode with the paddles for better control on the road.

I’m from Alberta and drive a 2024 Niro EV Wind+. I travel 100km each way to work 4 days a week. The car has been great overall though there’s a small rattle I haven’t found yet. Even in -30°C it made the trip but used 90% of the battery and switched to low power mode for the last stretch. At around 100 km/h in cold temps I get about 215 km on a full charge with winter tires. I’m curious how summer will affect range

Congrats on the Niro! Make sure to grab a charging app (like PlugShare) to avoid any “where’s the nearest charger?” panic. Keep an eye on your battery range, especially if weather’s being extra. Looks like you’re ready for your EV adventure

Congrats! Plan charging stops, download charging apps, and enjoy the ride. Level 2 at home is a huge plus
