Hey I'm new to the electric vehicle game and could use some advice. I just got a Kia Niro EV and have a Nema 14-30 outlet in my garage. I'm thinking of getting a 24 amp Level 2 charger to be safe, but I'm confused about the car's ability to handle up to 32 amps. Can I set the car to charge at maximum while using the 24 amp charger without any issues? Will the charger limit the power draw?

The EVSE and car communicate to determine how quickly to charge. The EVSE tells the car how much power it can provide, and the car converts the electricity.

The charger that plugs into the wall knows how much power your home's wiring can handle. Even if you try to set it higher, it won't deliver more than your electrical system allows.

Don't worry, there are lots of safety features built in. Your car can also detect any problems with the power supply. For example, if the voltage drops too much when you try to increase the charging speed, it means something's wrong.
